Mandate of the Division

  1. Manpower development: Training Programme on Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) for Filaria Inspectors/Technicians (Ten days) & Medical Officers/Biologists (Five days).
  2. Operational Research to support National Programme of Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis.
  3. Support to Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP) in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
  4. Outbreak investigation of various communicable diseases in the state of Uttar Pradesh and other states as per the directions of NCDC HQ.
  5. Services to Public Health: Weekly Night and Day Filaria clinic and Lymphoedema Management Clinic. Night Blood Smear examination for detection of asymptomatic microfilariae (mf) carriers in rural/urban areas.
  6. Entomological surveillance for prevention and control of vector borne diseases.
  7. Support to state government of Uttar Pradesh in COVID-19 screening and contact tracing of International passengers at LBSI Airport, Varanasi.
  8. To act as Nodal Officer for YEP surveillance in Sonbhadra & Mirzapur Districts of U.P.

 

Details of projects/programmes/research activities

  1. Collaboration with BHU faculties for Research activities in the field of Lymphatic Filariasis.
  2. Manuscript writing regarding Drug Efficacy in Lymphatic Filariasis, case reports of Cellulitis with ADA/ADLA and Myiasis in Lymphatic Filariasis is under process.

III. Research projects:

  1. Completed: 1. Assessment of prevalence and intensity of Soil

              Transmitted Helminths (STH) among pregnant women and school   

              children.

  1. Research projects submitted for approval:
  2. Assessment of efficacy of Albendazole against soil-transmitted

                      helminthiases in school going children. (Submitted to Ethics

                     Committee for approval at NCDC HQ, Delhi).

  1. Study of NCDs (DM, HTM & CAD) in patients of Lymphatic

                       Filariasis with acute attacks (ALA & ADLA) attending Day Filaria

                      Clinic at NCDC Varanasi branch. (Submitted for Ethics

                      Committee approval at NCDC HQ, Delhi).

  1. Research projects ready for submission:
  2. Assessment of elimination status of Lymphatic filariasis in

                     endemic areas of eastern UP and identification of possible risk

                     factors contributing to continued transmission after multiple           

                     rounds of mass drug administration with special reference to W.

                      bancrofti infection.

  1. Scientific publications:
  2. “Lymphatic Filarial Serum Proteome Profiling for identification

                       and characterization of Diagnostic Biomarkers” accepted for

                       publication in PLOS ONE (in press) (NCBI PubMed indexed,

                       Impact Factor 3.24).
